Brenchley and Matfield Local History Society & Archive

The Society was founded in 1971 and since then it has thrived with a membership of over 100, encouraging an interest in both local and national history. It is affiliated, and works in close collaboration and mutual support, with the Parish Archive.

The Archive is kept in 'The Archive and Meeting Room' in 'The Memorial Centre' Brenchley, and is open to visitors on Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings. All enquiries about local homes and ancestors are very welcome, as are donations of Archive material for our collection. Where there is a wish to retain the original records and photos, we are able to scan and return these so that a copy is held in the Archive. Regular exhibitions are held throughout the Parish.

The Society holds monthly meetings with Talks on a wide range of subjects of historical interest, as well as some social evenings. We also organise visits to properties and areas of historical interest. Our events are advertised in Roundabout, on notice boards in the two villages and on the diary page of this website. We are a friendly and welcoming Society, so please come along to one of our events and meet us. Any enquiries can be made by telephoning 01892 722339.
